Coming to market early 2021.
@jackisaacjohnson any pictures or videos of the El-born to share?
The SEAT El-Born might interest me but I just can’t get excited about the Cupra brand. It just doesn’t appeal to me for some reason.
I absolutely love it, I own a Seat Arona at the moment, which I love! The CUPRA brand does everything the Seat brand does for me but more. And that copper finish is a dream!
Each to their own
Agree with you on the Arona. We really liked ours and only sold it because we decided to go EV.
Looks surprisingly like a VW ID3 from a few angles…… hmmm
Does indeed, same car, different badge. I’m not a fan of VW though, find the design very boxy
Aren’t Seat / Cupra owned by VW? So it looking a bit like an ID3 would make a lot of sense - I guess they’re built on the same platform?
Says that it claiming a 310 wltp range on it though! I wonder if it will be cheaper than the ID3 or if Onto will get either of them?
@Lew1994 It all depends on whether VW is prepared to do any deals. The arrival of the Audi E-Tron is a good sign, but doesn’t mean it’s inevitable. ONTO can’t offer vehicles at reasonably affordable prices if they have to pay full price. Or they do a “buy back” deal as they’ve done with Renault for the Zoes.
I’m sure ONTO will try their best to bring the ID3 to their fleet. I think it’s quite obvious at this point that the ID3 will become the default EV for many people and will be a very common sight on our roads over the next few years.
ONTO not offering the ID3 would be like any other leasing firm not offering the Golf. It just wouldn’t happen.
Back to the Cupra El-born… I wonder if it will launch before or after the SEAT version?
Unfortunately it’s not as straightforward as that. Look what happened with Tesla. ONTO could easily rent out thousands of Model 3s. So why have they only got around 100? It’s because Tesla aren’t prepared to offer M3s to ONTO at a price that they could offer them without making a loss.
Hopefully that won’t be the case with VW and other manufacturers. It could be that VW want to offer their own subscription scheme like JLR and Volvo. In which case why would they give ONTO a preferential deal?
Of course the numbers have to work but there are various levels of motivation in making those numbers work. I think perhaps some people are underestimating the ID3. This is not just another EV. It will be the first EV that will become mass market and convert millions of people from ICE.
But you are right in that VW could potentially not offer a good deal if they have their own plans.
Personally, I find the ID3 boring but I still have a feeling it will be the catalyst for mass adoption.
We shall see. I could be wrong
Unless Tesla bring out Model 2 sooner rather than later
I still think Tesla may struggle to compete with VW for mainstream customers.
Although, I’ve never been a Tesla fan so that is probably swaying my opinion a little.
Noticed this interesting comment in the linked report…
The news came as Cupra announced the aim of doubling its sales in 2021, following what it called a “successful” first three years since its inception in 2018. It has also been confirmed that the Born will be offered to buyers on a subscription service, with online purchasing options.
Well we have the DS3 and e-2008 so it’s possible we could get the VW and Skoda versions as well as this SEAT EV.
I like the Mist Grey.
